Eli Winfield was a gamekeeper employed by G. Crompton in Stanton-by-Dale in the 1850s.
In January 1859, he brought charges against William Raynor (alias Stickland) for trespassing in pursuit of game in a field occupied by Mr. John Blunston. The defendant was fined 20s. and 22s. 6d. costs, or face one month’s imprisonment with hard labour.
