Primrose League Meeting

STANTON-BY-DALE.

PRIMROSE LEAGUE MEETING.โ€”On Thursday evening the Sandiacre, Stanton-by-Dale, and Risley Habitation of the Primrose League, (Mrs. Hooley, Risley Lodge, being Dame President), held a meeting at the Club-room, Stanton-by-Dale, upwards of 200 persons sitting down to tea. The following ladies provided trays:โ€”Mrs. Crompton (Stanton Hall), Mrs. Hooley, Miss Fox, Mrs. Malin, Miss Stevens, Mrs. Salt, Mrs. A. Barber, Mrs. Moorley, Mrs. Chambers, Mrs. Scattergood, Miss Crampton, and Miss S. Crampton. After tea a well-attended meeting of members and others was held, the chair being occupied by the Rev. J. Brett (curate) in the absence, through indisposition, of Mr. George Crompton, of Stanton Hall, and the Rev. W. Fox (rector). The room was nicely decorated, a number of plants in bloom having been kindly lent by Mr. Crompton, Stanton Hall. Ald. Bemrose, J.P., of Derby, gave a political address, as did also Mr. Councillor Trueman, of Ilkeston. The proceedings were interspersed with songs, well rendered by Miss Frederica Jennings, R.A.M., the Rev. D. Smith, and Mr. Hazlewood, of Ilkeston. After the meeting a large party proceeded to the schoolroom, where dancing was indulged in to the strains of Mr. Townsend’s string band. Among those at the meeting wereโ€”The Rev. C. W. Groves and Mrs. Groves (Risley), the Rev. D. Smith (Sandiacre), the Rev. W. T. Stratford (Little Hallam), Mrs. and Misses Adlington, Mr. Edwin Canner, Messrs. Heywood, Thomas Doar, A. H. Barber, J. A. Salt, J. Stevens, T. Smith, J. Tyrrel, B. Canner, W. Hollingworth, Mrs. Broomhead, Miss Pinder, Miss Winrow, Miss Severn, &c.
